Phonetics (Reading is Fun)
Phonics Basics
Many parents have heard about phonics and many have not. They put forward many questions: What does my child’s teacher try to say when she talks about phonics? Why my child needs to learn phonics to learn to read, when I have not taken phonics lessons? What is the right time to start Phonics lessons? You’ll get answers to these questions and more below.
What is phonics?
Phonics is a branch of linguistics where the sounds and physical properties of human speech sounds are studied. It is simply the system of relationships between letters and sounds in a language. When your child learns that the letter B has the sound of /b/ and that “tion” sounds like /shun/he/she is learning phonics.
Study of Phonics is highly essential in every child education. It is not strange to find parents who question the importance of phonics reading in the education of their children. Such parents believe that children will naturally master the different sounds of human speech since the ability to use language is innate in every human being. Their view may be persumable but they are not actually correct.
Why is phonics important?
|
Children have complications in reading because they are not able to recognize the sounds of the letters of the alphabet in the words they read. Phonics reading will help children to recognize and blend sounds of the letters of the alphabet in the word they read. This will help them to improve in their reading skills and efficiency. In other words, it will be difficult for a child to improve in his reading skills if the teaching of phonics is removed from their curriculum. Phonics encourages children to recognize text fluently by teaching them certain specific language rules relating to the pronunciation of words and how they are represented in a written form. As these rules are learned it results in an ever expanding vocabulary. Children develop the ability to be able to recognize specific patterns within words, which allows them to identify other words with similar phonemes.. Knowing phonics also help children know which letters to use as they write words.
|
Put very simply, the teaching of phonics is often designed to be fun for children. It is believed that this enhances the learning experience, and ultimately results in a more thorough development of reading and writing skills.

When is phonics usually taught?
Your children learn phonics in kindergarten till grade two. They practice reading and spelling words containing those letters and patterns..
Children vary in the amount of phonics guidance they need and when they need it. Some children need very little phonics guidance, while others still benefit from phonics guidance even after class three. Many children with dyslexia benefit from phonics instruction even at later stage.
PHONICS AT KOFALT GLOBAL
KOFALT GLOBAL has developed a unique approach to teach reading to 4 to 8 years old.
KOFALT has made a small land of alphabets who live happily together. These happy friends give speedy access to all 44 sounds and their major spellings. The result is that reading becomes easy and fun to remember!
Teachers in KOFALTLAND follow three methods of teaching reading to our kids.
- - Projector Education Programme where you bring letters to life in your classroom and explain their
sounds and word formation in a fun manner.
- - Glide n slide trick and
- - Elastic band trick.
- - Story based flash cards are used to teach children Single letter flash cards & Double letter flash cards
Benefits
Children learn to read by developing an understanding of how sounds are associated with individual letters, groups of letters, and finally full words. Learning to read with phonics can be extremely effective, especially if your child learns to read at an early age. Here are some of the biggest benefits of learning phonics.
Learning Phonics Helps Children Decode Words
One of the major benefits of learning phonics is that it teaches children to decode words on their own, which means they need less conclusively help with reading. When children learn the sounds, they can decode words they have not encountered before in their reading. This supports children to learn new words independently and read more confidently.
Learning Phonics Expands a Child’s Vocabulary
Another influence of learning phonics is that it gives children a foundation for learning new words, adding to the words they already know. Through phonics, children learn parts of words, which they can remember when they encounter new words they have never seen before. This makes learning to read much easier in the long run.
Learning Phonics Encourages Children to Recognize Text Fluently When children learn phonics, they also learn critical language rules that help with fluency down the road. Learning phonics involves an introduction to specific language rules related both to the pronunciation of the words and also how they are represented in written form. Through the phonics system, children develop the ability to be able to recognize patterns both within words and between words, while developing essential language skills that will be drawn upon again and again. |
Learning Phonics Enables Stronger Reading Comprehension
Since phonics readers become more fluent more quickly, they are able to stop focusing on the individual letters of each word (as this becomes automatic) and are thus free to focus on the meaning of what they are reading. This, in turn, supports a stronger development of reading comprehension skills overall, as well as a superior understanding of the language as a whole
Learning Phonics Boosts Writing Ability
Another benefit of learning phonics is that it ultimately helps children learn to write by using written lessons and activities to help children master both reading and writing skills. Children also tend to develop their spelling skills much more quickly, as they are learning which letters or combinations of letters create sounds in words that they write.
Learning Phonics Helps Kids Develop Strong Thinking Skills
Over the many decades in which phonics systems have been used to teach young children to read, research has found that phonics-trained students demonstrated superior performance in the area of critical thinking over the long term. Since the English language doesn’t always follow predictable rules, with the help of the tools provided by the phonics system, young readers are able to develop logic, reasoning, and analysis skills, which translates to stronger thinking skills overall.
Learning Phonics Benefits Kids with Special Needs
Phonics has long been the recommended system for ESL students (kids for whom English is a second language), as the system is accessible for students and makes the transition from the native language easier. However, research has also indicated that the predictable rules and easy to understand basics offered by phonics instruction can benefit children with dyslexia and those kids struggling with a hearing impairment.
Learning Phonics Makes Reading and Writing Fun
KOFALT GLOBAL Lessons for teaching phonics to young children are designed specifically to be fun and engaging, with stories and games incorporated into lessons along with visual material featuring vibrant colors and memorable images that children come to associate with the learning-to-read process. This approach to reading not only enhances the learning experience but ultimately results in a more thorough development of reading and writing skills.
Learning phonics provides an excellent way for children to read both quickly and effectively, giving them a systematic approach to reading upon which they can build and expand their skills. While phonics may not be the best reading solution for everyone, research shows it is highly effective for most children

Last six months went by quickly. I still remember very well when I enrolled my two children in KOFALT. I would like to thank KOFALT that provided a quality education environment to my children. Both my children were struggling academically because of their weak grammar and limited vocabulary. As they didn't speak English, KOFALT offered them a new technique. Now, I feel proud to say that my children have improved themselves a lot and try to speak in English. Thanks to KOFALT GLOBAL! - Mrs. Bindoo Sangal (Mother of Arnav Sangal, Class-V) |

We find the programmes under KOFALT GLOBAL more structured, beautifully designed and interesting for children to do than courses at other places. We can see improvement in my daughter's reading and writing skills and would highly recommend each parent to enroll their child with KOFALT. KOFALT provides a quality education in form of student friendly modules Level wise. The day to day schedule already designed helps students to progress in stages, allowing them to develop English language proficiency. It is different ! - Mrs. Alpana Aneja (Mother of Ramyaa & Radyaa, Class-IV & VII) |

I registered my daughter with KOFALT GLOBAL.The sessions and materials are easy to understand. The pictures on each page make the programme more lively and presentable. Our daughter is studying in KOFALT and we have found a drastic change in her understanding the language better. Now she is able to take out the answers of science and social studies on her own because of her improvement in understanding the sentences, besides she has started speaking fluently with us. KOFALT GLOBAL is a programme with a difference! - Mr. & Mrs. Bansal (Grandparents of Nimay Bansal, Class-V) |

After enrolling my grand daughter with KOFALT GLOBAL, I have noticed that the level of English improved tremendously in my grand daughter. Now she can write beautiful paragraphs, her creativity in writing has improved since she learned lots of new words from KOFALT which we could not have taught, if she had not joined KOFALT. Her speaking skills are improving day by day. Her teacher has taken her in debate competition in which she always wanted to participate but due to poor speaking skills she could not get a chance. Now we are thrilled to see her smiles when she prepares for the competition, I have great regards for KOFALT GLOBAL. - Mrs. Lata Gandhi (Mother of Falak Gandhi, Class-V) |
Hi I am Navneetha Naidu. I am a certified KOFALT GLOBAL teacher for last three years conducting classes in Delhi at shipra sun city. After few months I thought of joining company KOFALT GLOBAL and I entered into the world of edupreneurship. My meeting with vibha mam generated a kind of feeling in me that I was one step ahead of others. Training sessions by KOFALT gave me a new methodology to teach each chapter We, in training sessions are directed to give strong inputs to children so that their outputs are strong. It is for the first time I have seen that children are able to correlate the teaching of grammar with the teaching of composition. When I think, where do I laugh the most, answer is with my KOFALTchildren , where do I just feel good all the time answer reflects immediately in my KOFALT classroom. I am so glad to be a KOFALT franchisee!! - Navneetha Naidu (Mumbai) |

I am privileged to say that I am the first franchisee of KOFALT GLOBAL and kofalt is my family now.My long association with KOFALT GLOBAL has made me realize that teachers are teaching efficaciously & expertly in schools, but children as well as parents these days demand programmes of international levels and feel that the teaching methodology should be student friendly. Along with this they need high quality student friendly study material which is lacking in the books of N.C.E.R.T. & is a big challenge that different schools have to face these days.KOFALT GLOBAL is one such programme that will satisfy your child and your parent’s requirements in quality, content and cost by 110%. you know there is no other joy like the joy of teaching a student and seeing him achieve such success and growth in his life I would just say if you are thinking of joining KOFALT GLOBAL don’t give it a second thought for this opportunity and just go for it.. - Ms. Bharti Gupta (Centre Head. Noida) |

In my long journey of KOFALT GLOBAL .I remember, when I was searching for an English course for my town, I had scanned around 10 courses, and could not find anyone apt for even my kids, what to say for business. The vast grammar and well structured programme has been beautifully compiled in Smart Board Education form and the books are so interesting which make the kids attract towards them which otherwise is very challenging. Thanks a lot "Vibha mam" for sharing the crux of your years of hard work with us. I would suggest each parent to take the benefit of the programmes under KOFALT GLOBAL. - Mr. & Mrs. Singh (Centre Head, Malviya Nagar) |
